“Salla Allahu alaa Taha”

August 7th, 2008 by nuruddinzangi

In honor of the month of Sha’baan, the month of Rasool Allah, salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam, I upload the first madeeh of shaykh Saleh al-Jaafari that I fell in love with.

I feel that there is a lot of baraka in this madeeh for those who listen to it, especially because of the du’a at the very end.

Madeeh

I hope you enjoy it.

  3. Harun Says:

In one word: great! Masha’Allah, I fell in love with it the first time I listened to it. May Allah reward you!

  4. nuruddinzangi Says:

Thank you brother Harun. I’m curious, did you understand the words (or most of them), as I read you’re Dutch and only took a couple courses in Arabic?

Just wondering if people would like the madeeh of my shaykh even if they didn’t understand all its words.

  5. Harun Says:

    Salam dear brother,

I understood some of it but most of not sadly enough, would like to though; is there is translation? By the way: is a madeeh something typically for the Sudan? I understand the repetition is a salaat upon the Prophet s.a.w.s. and his family, his name TaHa if I’m correct and I recall to have heard to same names, the ones of Abu Bakr, Umar (Faruq) and Uthman. Couldn’t hear the one of ‘Ali. Is hem mentioned?

Listening to it more and more I come to understand some things.

I love it anyway and listen to it daily.

By the way: I put one of your articles on my blog about Muhammad ibn ‘Abdulwahhab and referred to your site. I hope you don’t mind. If you do I’ll remove it.

You have a very interesting blog masha’Allah.

This shaykh of yours is he from the Sudan? I understood he died, may Allah have mercy on him.

    Yours sincerely,

    Harun

    Dear brother,

madeeh is found everywhere in the islamic world. It’s just poems in praise of Rasool Allah, salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam, and this was begun by the Prophet’s companions, and he allowed it and even rewarded it. So it is practiced everywhere now. My shaykh comes from a tribe called the Jafari tribe, because they are descended from Jaafar al-Sadiq, and they are found in the Sudan and in Upper Egypt.

The main chorus (repitition) says Salla Allahu ‘ala Taha (salat on the Prophet) khayr al-khalq (the best of creation) wa a’hlaha (and the most beautiful of it)

wa ala al-karrar abil kurama (and upon the the one who is always charging in battle, who is Ali, the father of the noble ones), wal zahraa wa abnaha (and upon Fatima al-Zahraa and her sons).

as for the “taraddi” at the end (asking Allah to be pleased with the companions), it does mention sayyidna Ali by name. First it talks about sayyidna Abu Bakr, then Umar, then Uthman, then it says:

“and upon the cousin and the two grandsons that came from him, Ali al-karrar (the ever-charging in battle) and his two secrets.” then it says how al noor, the best of creation, spat in his eye and healed it (referring to the incident at khaybar before he gave him the flag to lead the army).

and yes, you can quote, post, or link to anything from my site. you can even take whatever you want without referencing me, i dont mind.

    Salam dear brother,

Barak’Allahu fik and much thanks for your answer! I was wondering if you have any contacts with members of that tariqa in Kenya as I’m going there for four months in two weeks and I’m very interested.
Furthermore, speaking about Ja’far as-Sadiq, the book by him, the Lantern of the Path (Misbah ash-Sharia), can you recommend it to me?

    Greetings,

    Harun

  8. nuruddinzangi Says:

    wa alaykum assalam akhi,

I haven’t heard of the book you mention, however I am very wary of any book attributes to imam Ja’far as-Sadiq. I don’t think there is any existing work that can be definitly attributed to him. The only thing I’m aware of is a small manuscript of tafsir, and some of it is translated in Michael A. Sells’ “Early Islamic Mysticism”. I once copied it from the book to a MS Word document which I can send to you if you wish.

As for the tariqa Jaafariyya Ahmadiyya Muhammadiyya, I haven’t heard of this tariqa reaching Kenya yet, as it is quite new. However its parent tariqa, the Ahmadiyya Muhammadiyya, might have possibly reached there.

  9. Harun Says:

Wa salamu aleykum wa rahmatullah akhi,

Well, as far as I know the book is ascribed to him, especially the Shi’a claim it is his actually, I ordered a copy through http://www.nuradeen.com, I was interested, it is about tasawwuf.
I would like the MS Word document on tafsir, you can post it to my e-mail insha’Allah. Jazzak Allahu khayran.

  10. someone Says:

Br.Nuruddin, this is really beautiful mashaAllah :-) Is there a way i could download it or get an mp3 copy?

  11. nuruddinzangi Says:

you’re back! you should be able to download it by right clicking on the pink-colored “madeeh”, isntead of the the box thingy to its left.

if that doesn’t work let me know and i’ll tell you another way.

  12. someone Says:

Lol yup i’m back (makes me sound like the terminator)

I tried what you said, it opens in another window but doesn’t download. Or maybe i’m just not doing it right… (I use a mac btw, don’t know if that makes a difference)

  13. nuruddinzangi Says:

Yeah I use a Mac as well. You have to right-click on it, not just click. If you don’t have a mouse with two buttons you do

Ctrl+Click on it, then you click Save As…

I don’t see why that doesn’t work. But if it still doesn’t, let me know again, and we’ll try it another way.

It’s important for me that ppl be able to download these things cause I plan to put more up soon inshalla.

    Also do you understand Arabic?

  14. someone Says:

Doh - i wasn’t doing it right. Thanks for the help, i’ve downloaded it now :-)

I understand Arabic at a basic level. I recognise most of the words in the madeeh and can string together the meaning of what is being sung when i sit down and listen to it carefully. There is definitely more muhabbah invoked in the heart when you understand and contemplate on the full meaning.

I look forward to the other things you’re planning on uploading. Perhaps they’ll have a translation with them too? :-)

  15. nuruddinzangi Says:

    inshaAllah

  16. abu layla Says:

    salam

    beautiful!

do you have the text of this qasida? - please email me a copy!

    jazakallah!

  17. nuruddinzangi Says:

    wassalam.

I’m afraid the text is not with me.. It’s in Jordan. But if I find it, or have the time to write it, I will, inshalla.

  18. Jafri Says:

salam, when you do get the text inshAllah, please send it to me too. This is simply awesome!
