Popular Egyptian da’i Amr Khaled has a counter on his website, where he is trying to get 10 million Qur’an khatms this Ramadan. He’s already got more than 2 million. InshaAllah I was told the purpose is for the uplifting of the Ummah.
This is good motivation for one to make sure they finish the Qur’an this Ramadan at least once.. And if you read the Qur’an through Allah’s support, not by your own power, you should be able to do much more.
As I was just reading tonight in one of the poems of Shaykh Saleh al-Ja’fari:
ورتّل كلام الله واعلم بأنّه * كبحرٍ بإذن الله صار ميسّرا
So recite the Qur’an with tarteel and know,
that it is like an ocean, that, by the permission of Allah becomes easy.
And as he repeats once again later in the same poem,
ثقيلٌ مليءٌ بالعلوم ميسّرٌ * بتيسير ربي صار حقا ميسرا
Heavy, full of knowledge, but made easy
By Allah making it easy, it became truly easy
[ I wish I had time to translate all the lines that came between...]
So before beginning to read, negate from yourself any power or ability to recite the Qur’an, and say la hawla wa laa quwwata illa billaah, there is no power or might except in Allah, and ask His permission to recite the Qur’an with His support, and it will become very easy inshaAllah. Also helps to do salawaat on Rasool Allah, salla Allahu alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam. If you find it really heavy on the tongue then do istighfar first, at least a hundred times, as sins might be repelling the Qur’an from you. They say it will not show its beauty to people carrying great sins.
Trust me, if you do all that, you will see wonders.
And remember that some of the salaf used to recite it hundreds of times.
Sayyida Nafeesa of Egypt, may Allah be pleased with her, dug her own grave and would sit in it and recite the Qur’an, finishing it there 6.000 times.
It is said that sayyidna Uthman ibn Affan once recited the entire Qur’an in two rak’ats of prayer, and Muhammad Uthman al-Mirghani witnessed this same karaama being done by sayyidi Ahmad ibn Idris. It all goes back to Allah’s blessings.
So, how many times will you finish the Qur’an this month? If you can read Arabic, you can register each of your Qur’an khatms (completions) here:
amrkhaled.net/khatmat/ ( i haven’t tried it yet but i think it’s just a click)
If you can’t read Arabic, you can let me know, and i’ll register it for you isA.
Remember us in your du’as after the khatm isA.
wassalam
